CAROL CLOVERCarol Clover is an American professor of film studies. In 1992 she published a book about her 'final girl' theory which changed both popular and academic conception in horror films. The 'final girl' theory is often used in horror films.
Clovers theory refers to the last girl in a horror movie who confronts the killer having certain characteristics. Such as having a unisex name, this female is also represented as being a tomboy thought the film, many of the girls in the final scene are also normally virgin or they are not available. Over all the 'last girls' normally have very strict moral compared to others shown in the move. This is shown through Sidney Prescott's character in Scream as she is seen to be the last person to be alive after everyone has been killed off. She is also in the scene in which the killers true identity is revealed, |
WHEELER WINSTON DIXONWheeler Winston Dixon is an American filmmaker and scholar, his is an expert in film history and theory. His theory is that all men and women in horror movies are not actors they are just sight of activity. The sight of activity would be when they are killed. This theory means that the audience do not get to know the character well enough therefore we are able to emotionally detach ourselves from them.
